Safe Sex and STDs
This site is designed to offer sex advice for consenting adults (An adult is referred to as someone above the legal age of consent in your country). If you have any queries about the legal age of consent in your country, you are advised to ask a responsible adult or visit a reputable website.
We encourage all our readers to become as knowledgeable as possible concerning safe sex issues and STDs. There are many resources out there that can offer you this knowledge and a simple google search should give you all the information you need. In addition we recommend entering these terms into www.wikipedia.org to get an overview of the topic. If in doubt, use a condom, it is the simplest way to protect yourself and your partner.
On top of that we encourage frank, open and non-judgmental discussion between you and your partner(s) concerning your sexual histories and any conditions either of you may have.
Using Dental Dams for Safe Oral Sex
One of the most interesting questions for me is the question of whether STDs can be spread through oral sex. Like a lot of sex experts this is an important question for me, as giving good oral sex is one of the most surefire ways to make a woman have an orgasm.
The simple answer is that it is reduced, but still possible. It is unfortunate but true that no method of sexual contact is 100% safe (Even mutual masturbation has risks, albeit very low), therefore for those with a healthy, active sex life it is more important that you know the risks and act in a way that is appropriate for the risk. It is also worth noting that the risk of spreading some diseases is reduced by having oral sex. While this includes some nasty ones such as AIDs, it is still best to have protection if you know your partner has an STD and be especially careful if there are any sores or lesions on her genitals.
For those that want to make this risk very low you can invest in dental dams that will cover the mouth during oral sex and offer protection. In case of an emergency, a condom can be cut open and stretched out to make a makeshift dental dam, however it can be difficult to do without inadvertently piercing the latex in the wrong place.
